Gifted Testing

The length of administration is usually 1-2 hours and is dependent on the individual. If your child is being evaluated, ABC Testing Services recommends that you select a time of day when your child is most alert, make sure your child receives plenty of rest prior to testing, has eaten a well-balanced meal, and is feeling well. Furthermore, try not to place too much emphasis on the test session itself, instead, encourage your child to do the best they can.

A standard score of below 70 indicates Intellectual Disability (InD) has an onset during the developmental period and includes both intellectual and adaptive functioning deficits. The severity levels of Intellectual Disability include: Mild= IQ 55-70, Moderate= IQ 40-55, Severe= IQ 25-40, or Profound= IQ <25

A person who scores 90-109 is usually classified as having Average intelligence.

A person who scores 130 or higher may be considered Gifted depending on the county and program. Miami-Dade County Public Schools requires a score at or above 130 on a standardized IQ test (Plan A) or a score at or above 112 on a standardized IQ test (Plan B). Plan B was developed to increase the participation of students from under-represented groups in programs for the gifted, such as Limited English Proficient and/or low socioeconomic families, a special “matrix” may be utilized, giving different weight to the various gifted criteria. Ultimately, the decision for placement is determined within the school and is dependent on several factors.
