Karen Michelle Zambrano, Psy. S., LSP, NCSP
Karen M. Zambrano has served students in Miami-Dade County for 10 years. From 2006 to 2011 she was a teacher and an after school tutor at an inner city school in which she served students with various disabilities. She addressed her students’ difficulties by providing differentiated instruction and proper accommodations in the classroom. It was during this time that Ms. Zambrano became very interested in learning more about assisting children with different disabilities and helping the school and parents identify educational programs based on the student’s disability and educational needs. As a result, Ms. Zambrano furthered her studies and obtained a degree in school psychology from Nova Southeastern University. Ms. Zambrano is a Nationally Certified and licensed school psychologist for Pre-k through 12th grade. After she obtained her school psychology degree, she continued working for Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS). As an important member of the multidisciplinary team at various schools, Ms. Zambrano has conducted in-service training for teachers, assisted in crisis interventions, held staffings with parents to determine eligibility of special education services, and assisted in creating Individualized Education Plans (IEP) for students with various exceptionalities.
As a school psychologist and former teacher, she has received extensive training in academic and behavioral interventions. Ms. Zambrano has conducted psychoeducational evaluations for the following disabilities: Developmental Delay (DD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Specific Learning Disability (SLD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities (EBD), Intellectual Disability (InD), and Gifted.
Currently, Ms. Zambrano is enrolled in the Clinical Psychology Psy.D. program at Albizu University. She is also a member of the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), Florida Association of School Psychologists (FASP), and American Psychological Association (APA). Ms. Zambrano remains current in the profession by attending annual conferences provided by the aforementioned organizations and participating in different professional development workshops offered by M-DCPS student services/psychological services department.
